Are you interested in joining the Tribunal?
As we employ most of our staff under the Public Service Act 1999, there are some important things you need to know about our eligibility requirements and the checks we conduct to make sure we maintain our high standards.
To be eligible for employment by the Tribunal, you must meet some key criteria.
All potential employees of the Tribunal are required to undertake an Australian Federal Police check. This is carried out by a company called Veritas on behalf of the Tribunal. The process involves checking police records for any disclosable court outcomes.
If you are required to access classified materials, a formal security assessment may be necessary. An adverse character check or failure to obtain the necessary security clearance can result in the withdrawal of your employment offer.
Your employment history will be checked as part of the reference checking process.
You must be an Australian citizen to be eligible for employment with the Tribunal.
In exceptional circumstances, this requirement may be waived by the Agency Head but you must hold, and continue to hold, the necessary visa and work permits appropriate to the employment.
Successful applicants for ongoing and non-ongoing employment with us are required to complete a health assessment declaration.
Should a medical examination be required following assessment of the declaration, this will be organised by the Tribunal.
If you have received a redundancy benefit from an Australian Public Service agency or the Australian Parliamentary Service, certain re-engagement restrictions apply.
More details on these arrangements can be found on the website of the Australian Public Service Commissioner.
All new employees to the Tribunal are required to complete a minimum 6 month probationary period. During this time you will meet regularly with your supervisor to discuss how they can support you to ensure your conduct and work performance meet our standards.
Failure to meet these standards may result in termination of employment.
