What is fraud?
The Commonwealth Fraud and Corruption Control Framework defines fraud as ‘dishonestly obtaining (including attempting to obtain) a gain or benefit, or causing a loss or risk of loss, by deception or other means’.
In this definition, 'benefit' refers both to tangible items, such as money or objects, and intangible benefits including power, status or information.
How do I report fraud?
You can provide information about suspected fraudulent or unethical behaviour impacting the Tribunal by emailing fraud@art.gov.au.
If you have information relating to fraud against other Commonwealth Government agencies, then please report to those agencies. If it relates to payment of Commonwealth benefits, call the Australian Government Services Fraud Tip-Off Line on 131 524.
What information should I provide?
It will help us to investigate the matter if you can provide us with as much information as possible.
You are encouraged to provide:
- details about the person(s) involved such as names, phone numbers, addresses and organisations
- information about actions or activities you think are fraudulent, including how, when and where they occurred
- your contact details.
You can choose to remain anonymous when providing information.
What will happen next?
We take all allegations of fraud seriously. We will assess the information you give us and investigate where appropriate.
We will refer potentially serious or complex fraud offences to the Australian Federal Police.
While we aim to respond to your allegations, we might not always provide you with feedback due to privacy restrictions and/or to protect the integrity of an investigation. If your allegation involves another person, we might not be able to give you any information about the conduct or outcome of the investigation due to our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988.
